The name ‘Moyo’ means ‘heart’ in Kiswahili, and reflects our authentic Swahili origins, which truly are at the heart of Moyo – from its cultural inspirations to its indigenous materials and all who work with them. The name also reflects the care and attention to detail that goes into every item crafted by the Moyo artisans.
Inspired by the bold colours and patterns of African wax textiles, Moyo – a quirky, East African design house – creates individually handcrafted interior décor. Skilled artisans use traditional tailoring techniques to create a contemporary Swahili-infused aesthetic, embodying the carefree kaleidoscope of contemporary Swahili style and culture. All Moyo’s distinctive home accessories feature the signature embellishments of playful pompoms and bright Maasai beads, capturing a fusion of cultures, tribes and traditions. Following Fair Trade principles and a philosophy of sustainability, Moyo repurposes most of its waste and utilises various recycled materials within its product ranges. Furthermore, each sassy piece is entirely individual and serves to support the artisan who made it.
